Tap Truck Calgary - Branch of the Month January 2025

Kicking 2025 off strong, we would like to welcome you all to the first Branch of the Month feature in the New Year! As new beginnings take off and we settle into new routines, it’s important to reflect on our journey, chase new aspirations, and follow the callings that fill our hearts with fire. Each Tap Truck USA branch has a story that goes beyond business, they’re all about passion, purpose, and unwavering dedication. To hit the streets running in 2025, we are honored to highlight a branch that embodies all of these qualities and more: Tap Truck Calgary

Known for its natural beauty, breathtaking landscapes, and cowboy culture, Southern Alberta Canada is the perfect backdrop for Tap Truck Calgary to bring its tapped beer truck to life! Driving the rig, that is Tap Truck Calgary, is Tyrell Sinclair, a dedicated firefighter who has spent the last 26 years serving his community. However, his underlying love for classic trucks and great beer led him down an unexpected, yet fulfilling road. With his wife by his side, Tap Truck Calgary brings a Western and rustic Tap Truck experience to every event they serve.

Tap Truck Calgary's rustic 1949 Chevy pickup vintage mobile bar

Tyrell’s story with Tap Truck USA started well before he knew about the nation’s leading mobile bar family. In 2018, he stumbled upon a rare gem, a five-window, 1314 model, Chevrolet pickup truck. From there, Tyrell embarked on a passion project, building his very first truck from the ground up. To jumpstart this project Tyrell and his team began with a 1985 GMC S15 frame, which would later become the foundation of Tap Truck Calgary. The engine was then upgraded to a powerful 350 Vortec, completed with oversized cam and Vortec heads. The team then went on to replace the transmission with a steady 700R4 from an early 90’s GM. After the show pony was ready to feel the road beneath its tires, the team lowered the suspension by five inches all around and upgraded the tires to GM Rally Wheels from a 1969 Corvette. Needless to say, Tyrell dedicated countless hours and elbow grease to this calling and that is the character that Tap Truck USA is founded on! It wasn’t until four years later that Tyrell stumbled upon his next passion project while on Instagram. “I was immediately inspired to create something similar”, Tyrell told us, “The idea of combining a passion project with a potential business venture was incredibly appealing”. As he already had a vehicle that fit the Tap Truck brand, he began to envision the one-of-a-kind mobile tap truck he would build a business around.

Tap Truck Calgary officially hit the streets in the Spring of 2022, serving craft beverages throughout Calgary, Canmore, Banff, and the county of Rockview in Alberta, Canada. When we asked Tyrell what he was most excited about when bringing a Tap Truck to his location, he said, “We were most excited for the possibilities that the Calgary Stampede had to offer”. The buzz around this world-famous rodeo offered Tap Truck Calgary the opportunity to connect with the Western spirit of Alberta and build a strong relationship within their community. However, like any business, Tyrell had plenty of obstacles to navigate, especially in the early days. From figuring out how to pour the perfect beer on a hot day, to growing their audience and recognition in their community, the Calgary team has shown their GRIT and continues to push through any challenge they face, stating, “We overcame many challenges by simply not giving up, we have worked hard to get to this point and are more prepared now if challenges come our way”. Their resilience and determination shaped Tap Truck Calgary into a staple of Alberta’s event scene, proving that hard work and passion pave the road to success.

It is safe to say that Tap Truck Calgary found its niche, “People love getting pictures with the truck” says Tyrell, “Farm weddings are probably our biggest draw, but anything to do with a Western theme, the truck is always a huge hit”! Beyond the barnyard parties and the countless pours, Tap Truck Calgary built a strong presence in their region, forging relationships with some of Alberta’s top breweries, including The Establishment Brewing Company, Annex Ales, Wild Rose Brewery, and Uncommon Ciders. The team also fosters a strong relationship with the ‘BMO Centre Convention Center’ which hosts thousands of guests each year! The duo's impact has gone beyond just business as they are involved with many charities and actively support their community whenever possible. One partnership special to the Calgary team is ‘Kids Up Front’, an organization that provides special experiences like sporting events, concerts, and more to deserving children and youth in the Calgary area.

Newlywed couple celebrate their wedding with Tap Truck Calgary's 1949 vintage mobile bar

After two years of servicing countryside weddings, Tyrell and his wife opened their own event venue named ‘The Barn at Prairie Lane’, which is a great outlet for them to gain attraction to their Tap Truck mobile bar services. Tyrell explained, “Who knew a simple truck I built back in 2018 would lead us on such an amazing journey”! When we asked Tyrell what his favorite part is about being in the Tap Truck family, he said, “We have been lucky to meet some amazing people within the Tap Truck network. All have been very friendly and willing to help us sort out any issues and share ideas to help make us all successful”. To anyone looking to join Tap Truck USA, Tyrell’s advice is to be ready to work, work hard to master your craft, never give up, and enjoy the rewarding pursuit that the mobile bar industry brings.

As we embrace the opportunities of 2025, we raise a glass to Tap Truck Calgary, a branch built on passion, dedication, and the belief that when you follow your calling, incredible things will happen!
